Moonlace...ah. Yes of course. And you...want me, for that? [ Confusion was used and it's super effective. Well he can't say he's surprised? Or perhaps he should say he is...given how closed off Zen was. Ozpin could understand it, to an extent, after all it was hard to do something like moonlacing complete strangers. So, given the nature of things, he gets it.
Still he never would have imagined Zen asking him of all people. He's sorry for the sass, now! If he had know the nature of the call he wouldn't have given him such a reply?! ]
You're not...too bad off, are you? [ He sounds like a teacher admonishing a student with that tone in his voice. Concern and yet something strict in there as well. ]
[More like Zen's been fasting on purpose... or kind of. If he was going to have to ask for help eventually, there was little point in asking before he even needed it. And it was a good chance to put the limits to which he could go without moonlacing to the test.]
Well, yeah. Just this once is fine.
[Although if all goes well (aka if it doesn't feel super awkward), surely it wouldn't hurt to make it a habit? Both of them would benefit from it.
But alas! Oz's teacher voice is not very effective...]
Does that really matter now? If you're not up for it, just say so.
[Because neither denying nor confirming it pretty much confirms it. But the last thing Zen wants is the old man worrying about him like he's some child who can't take care of himself. Which, when it comes to moonlacing, is closer to the truth than he would like to think.]
[Good thing Ozpin can't see his face right now, otherwise he'd see Zen frowning at the screen with his lips pursed into a faint pout. The temptation to come up with a witty comeback to yet another of Ozpin's corny lines is certainly there, but he's far from being in the mood to keep dragging this conversation.]
That's not a very tempting offer, but I'll give it some thought.
[Asking Ozpin to drop by would be like confessing that, indeed, he is quite bad off, even if Ozpin will figure it out with a single glance at him once they meet anyway. And while he doesn't really think the older man would attempt anything funny, he doesn't find the idea of being alone in a private room with him appealing — he knows from experience that Sanguis' effects are not to be underestimated. Under these circumstances, a public place would be the safest choice, but if they're going to moonlace, he'd rather pick somewhere with as little public eye as possible. All the better if it's within walking distance, given his condition.
Of course, he doesn't voice any of these thoughts at all, and instead just types in the coordinates to a small, cozy park close to the residential district on level 2, where he currently lives. He speaks up after pressing the button to send the text.]
Neither. Check the text I've just sent for the place. See you there.
[ Such a prickly young man, Zen. Ozpin gives a curious hum before he looks at the designated spot. He doesn't normally care about moonlacing in front of others, he hasn't exactly done anything too...debauch though. Hand holding, hugging, nothing nearly scandalous enough to mind going to a nearby park. ]
Very well. I'll meet you there in a few minutes then.
[ And with that he'll get up, cane in tow, and walk to said park. It's not as grandiose as the groves but it's quaint and homey enough to put one at ease. And so he'll wait just outside the entrance leaning against the iron gate with his cane in hand for the other to arrive. ]
[Part of Zen didn't believe in the man's earnestness to help. So he's a bit surprised to see a distinctive, tall silhouette, cane in hand (old people and their habits!) when the gate comes into view. Once the distance is reduced to only a few feet, he gives a wave of his hand in greeting, taking the burning cigarette between his lips for a quick drag before speaking up.]
You really came.
[And when his eyes travel upwards to the man's face, he notices... the pair of rabbit ears sticking out from the silver mass of hair.]
... Are those extra pair of ears any functional?
[Unlike Ozpin, he doesn't any physically different from usual, except for the hint of dark circles under his eyes, courtesy of the nightmares that sometimes become more frequent during this time of the month.]
I am trying to be a man of my word, Zen. [ Of course he wasn't going to just ghost on him?! What do you take him for!! At the mentioning of his ears Ozpin's will twitch and he'll give the other a look of mild amusement. ]
They are. Quite sensitive as well. [ If their appearance of being banged up and ragged isn't enough to hit the point home Ozpin might lightly touch one and let out a soft sigh. ]
But enough about that. You're here for my help, yes? You look rather tired, have you been sleeping well?
[Sensitive, huh. Zen hasn't experienced any physical change yet, neither is he looking forward to it, because it sure sounds like a pain from what he's seen and heard from others. But priorities first. Though explaining in details how the moon's whim can completely mess up with his sleep is far from one.]
What if I say I haven't? You're not going to offer to put me to sleep with a lullaby every night, are you?
[His shoulders shake with quiet laughter before he glances around, surveying for a place to sit down. He's actually more tired — depleted of both chroma and physical energy — than he'd ever admit out loud. Walking past the gate and into the park, he gestures towards the direction of some empty benches.]
Come on, let's sit down over there.
[Not to mention that if they're going to be doing cheesy things like holding hands, he'd rather avoid having to stand face to face with the older man, with no discrete way of hiding any potential embarrassed reactions...]
[ Should he be worried to divulge such sensitive information?! Ozpin will give Zen a look, almost like an admonishing parent towards his child, before he follows the other further into the park. ]
A lullaby? No. But perhaps I might be able to regale you with stories of my multiple youths.
[ Ozpin?!? Please. He is totally saying that with his stoic and deadpan tone of voice, though there is a touch of amusement in his eyes as he looks around at their surroundings. His ears will twitch and flick every once in awhile as some errant sound in the distance is picked up by them. ]
Either way. I do wish you would have come to me, or someone you trust, sooner than this. But I'm sure it'll be easy to fix with moonlacing.
[ This time. It's hard to say how depleted the other man's levels are. The device on his wrist would be his best bet of knowing, but he's not going to force it. ]
You know, that doesn't sound so bad. Maybe I should take you up on that offer next time. You'll keep your word as usual, right?
[He's (most likely) just joking, since that would probably require them to live under the same roof, or at least spend the night under the same roof. And that is what makes up the part that doesn't make the idea entirely good... considering their current relationship, at least.]
Can't say I completely trust anyone here yet, so that first part is easily said than done, professor. [There's an obvious stress on the title, in response to the reprimanding tone of those words.] And I was curious about how far I could go without moonlacing before my body started to show signs of crystallization, so it was like hitting two birds with one stone.
[ Ozpin looks a bit surprised that there was no witty comeback, something he just expected of the other now, but he mostly just smiles and shakes his head those floppy rabbit ears twitching and flick with the motion. ] Well I have thus far, why would I change that now? I have a good many stories to tell, so you'll have plenty of chances to ask.
[ He's actually serious?! Or maybe he's joking, it's hard to really tell. ] And you never thought to think about what might have happened if no one had agreed to your request? I've heard crystallizing is rather painful, and you should know that pushing it like you have isn't exactly the smartest of decisions.
[ It's because of that hint that Ozpin's tone is even more reprimanding!! Zen, please. ] I know that putting your trust in others is difficult, believe me more so than anyone I do. But pushing yourself to this level is...unnecessarily dangerous. Though I do hope you're done with your little experiment and your curiosity on the matter has been fulfilled.
[ Sad dad noises in the distance as he gives the other a once over. ]
[Not!dad, please. The issue of recklessness aside, Zen is a big boy already (despite his looks), a little pain doesn't scare him. Not to mention he's used to it already, seeing as every now and then he has to deal with a vestige of the aging effect that was imposed on his clone body back home.
While Ozpin goes on and on with his sermon, Zen takes another puff on his cigarette, making a mental note to avoid mentioning anything that could be regarded as dangerous to the older man in their future interactions.]
...Sheesh. Just what you getting worked up for? I can take care of myself.
[To him, Ozpin is clearly overreacting. If worse came to worst, he would ask his other acquaintances, and if that didn't work either, he would take it over the network. So the chances of not even a single soul agreeing were null.
A sour look crosses his face as he shoots the other an aggravated stare. So you wanted a witty comeback, Oz?]
I asked for your help with moonlacing, not for lessons on how to live my life. If you're looking for someone to babysit, why don't you go find your students? [A meaningful pause.] Oh, I forgot. They haven't fully accepted you back, have they? Guess I'm beginning to see why now.
[Then, with a final whip of his head as in a rebellious demand that the subject be dropped, he briskly makes his way to an empty bench. Plopping himself down, he leans against the backrest and brings his relief cancer stick to his lips again. Not surprisingly, he doesn't spare a single glance back. But (not so) surprisingly, deep inside he feels a pang of guilt for his own words just now.
I'm sure you can. But...one cannot help but get a bit worried when hearing all of that, hm?
[ Though it's with those next few words that Zen will see a subtle change in Ozpin's demeanor and expression. Ozpin will stop just before the bench the other has taken a seat upon, it doesn't show that he's affected by Zen's words in his expression but those ears of his droop slightly as he looks away. There's also a sadness in those brown eyes of his as he closes them before his shoulders sad a little. Right, that was a bit deserved, wasn't it? ]
Ah. Yes. Of course. I seem to have struck a nerve. I apologize. [ He might finally sit with a soft sigh. Zen's words weren't entirely wrong, after all, and Ozpin admits to that much. Still it was a bit...hard to hear it again, but he won't admonish or get angry for the words that were clearly out of line. Not!son you make him sad, but he came here for a reason, and so he'll hold out his hand for the other to take. ]
[Zen isn't looking directly at the man towering over him, but the way he turns his face further the opposite direction is a giveaway that he caught the sight of the desolate response in the corner of his eyes. That was his intention for a split moment, but seeing it have the (now un)intended effect only leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Even though it doesn't look like the other man took it too personally. He's going to have to apologize for this later, when he's feeling less like crap and able to think a bit more clearly.
Though, as he turns his eyes away from that sight, he can't help but think... isn't Ozpin a little too old for that kind of cutesy reaction? Must be the velvety (although tattered) ears giving that vibe, but still...]
... I sure hope so.
[And he'll be (literally) damned if it doesn't suffice.
Weary eyes flicker back to the hand held out to him before he reaches out his own, letting it rest atop the larger one, and reluctantly laces his fingers against the others'. The mere brush of skin against skin is enough to send a meager rush of chroma through his energy depleted system, a soothing calmness slowly starting to wash over his nerves. The sudden influx draws a shaky, deep sigh from him.
It's at times like this he's reminded why some people get hooked on moonlacing. Joining the ranks is something he would rather avoid, though.]
[ Ozpin's thoughts on the matter take an entirely new turn upon seeing Zen act like that. It's clear as day he hadn't meant what he had said and given the moon...was he perhaps Sanguis? It would explain a great deal if he was. But he won't say anything as he feels Zen's fingers interlace with his own a hum of contentment as that chroma surges between them both. It was always a strange and...rather abrupt feeling to experience, but he was getting used to it.
Also his ears do what they want?! He can't exactly help it, and even with another tired sigh they're droop a little as he looks at the young man sitting next to him. ]
If not, then we'll figure it out. But it does seem like it's working, hm? How are you feeling now?
[If Ozpin wanted an opportunity to steal a glance at Zen's device for his chroma meter, now would be a good opportunity. If only his reaction didn't reveal the truth already.
The touch is working as expected. Stress begins to slowly give way to tranquility, as though it's dissipating the longer they stay connected, starting with the muscles of the hand in Ozpin's. However, at the same time that the surge of chroma soothes both Sanguis' influence and the lethargy induced by chroma shortage, it also strips his fatigued body of the tension that it's been running on.
His body begins to relax against the taller man's shoulder, leaning against it slightly. On his other side, his former object of relief hangs completely forgotten between his fingers, burning away on its own. It looks like he won't be needing it for the rest of the night.
Not meeting Ozpin's eyes, Zen diverts his gaze downwards to their joined hands.]
... Starting to feel strangely sleepy.
[Not!Dad, hopefully you're not in a hurry and don't mind a Not!Son using you as a pillow for a quick, unplanned nap!]
[ And a quick glance he might steal. His brows might knit in worry at how it's just above the red but it was probably more below it prior to their touch. He'll also take note of the sudden drowsiness of the other and how his tense body begins to relax. Ah. So. His assumptions were correct. It makes sense then and it's mainly the reason why he didn't actively get upset with the other man. ]
That tends to happen when your body is finally in a relaxed state. Stress often makes one tired once it's finally dissipated.
[ Not in a hurry, no. He'll take this opportunity to relax himself and even shut his own eyes as they both rest. This isn't so bad, actually. He's rather enjoying the peace and the quiet, despite the bustling city surrounding them. ]
[Do you think I don't know that already is what the cranky part of him that is slowly shutting down wants to respond with, but what comes out instead is a low hum of acknowledgment as Zen grows drowsier, eyelids becoming heavy. So all his conscious focus goes to fit comfortably (or as comfortably as possible) against Ozpin's arm, before his consciousness begins to drift off.
For the span of a few minutes, he'll remain still in that position, guard completely down while unconsciously savoring the much needed chroma. For once, he's not just pretending to be asleep.
When he comes around, he finds the tall man in a similar state, completely still if not for the quiet breathing. He shifts, leaning away from his former pillow, though not pulling his hand away. A lazy peek upwards into Ozpin's face reveals the pair of brown eyes are shut behind the glasses that barely conceal anything... and the pair of tattered ears' relaxed droop also hint at the same conclusion.
No matter how Zen looks at them, those ears simply don't seem to match the man's mature air at all. Thinking about it, Ozpin did say they were sensitive, didn't he? But to what, exactly? To wake the other up with a scare would be in poor taste even for a harmless prank, but even in the midst of the sleepy haze, Zen's mischievous side can't help but be a bit curious.
Shifting again, he reaches up with his free hand to touch an ear (though not before taking note that his cigarette mysteriously vanished from his fingers — he'll need to find the burnt butt later so as not to be accused of littering again!)]
[ Ozpin hadn't meant to doze off, not really, but he is more relaxed and open here. It's more than he's ever been in his lifetime, really. He would normally be more caged off, solitary, not exactly wanting to really get close to anyone for fear of betrayal and uncertainty. But it was different here now and he's trying to be different, changed as it were, but it's still a long time coming.
His ears are the most sensitive spot on his body to date, not that that's hard given his lack of...any sort of intimacy in the last few decades. Ozpin isn't used to being on the receiving end of such advances. It's...still strange and awkward for him in more than one way. So when Zen touches his, soft velvety, ear like that, gentle as it may be, it will twitch and Ozpin will let out a soft noise, content and maybe even a bit husky as his eyes start to move beneath their lids. The burst of chroma from the act is a nice surprise too, though once Zen keeps his hand there for longer Ozpin's eyes will snap open, a startled sort of breath escaping him.
Good job Zen! You have managed to startle and achieve the impossible? Ozpin doesn't startle easily but when he does it's...not very often. He finally realizes who it is and will lightly grasp the other's wrist, only adding to the chroma surging between them both. ] Zen? What are you...
Although not used to physical intimacy himself, Zen promptly recognizes the noise as a pleased reaction to being stimulated, and halts when his wrist is grabbed. But the chroma coming from the additional points of contact prevents him from letting go immediately. Or maybe it's just Sanguis pushing him to seek what he normally wouldn't. Who knows.
Still, it's the first time he's seen the calm man grow openly defensive about something. That can only mean one thing!]
It's just curiosity towards the unknown. [In other words, a whim.] But it seems I found a weak point by accident. Your fault for not telling me sooner what you meant by your ears being sensitive.
[Even in that accusation, he sounds more amused than anything. But now is not the time to exploit said weak point, so he'll offer no resistance and release his hold in case Ozpin wants to pull his wrist away from the newfound weakness.]
it's true but please think of Oz and his old heart, he can't handle this!! (´д`)
[ It sure was a sound of stimulation. These ears are quite troublesome when it comes down to it, especially when they're touched in such a manner. Ozpin gives him a look as he finally releases Zen's wrist, after moving his hand away, with a rather tired sigh. ]
I didn't think it had to be said...outright. [ Um?? He's not going to say that they turn him on when touched!? It's bad enough that they're super sensitive, but the fact they affect him in such a way is another thing entirely to mention. ]
I'll have to ask you to refrain from touching them for the time being. I. I suppose I'm still not used to them being...permanent. [ He's putting you in time out young man! You lost ear privileges...
[Saying they're sensitive to touch would've sufficed, old man... Probably wouldn't have stopped Zen from doing what he did, though. How would he not use sensitive information for some harmless amusement? The invigorating chroma aside, though, he doesn't have a (serious) reason to touch it again. Even more so knowing the specific kind of reaction it causes. On the bright side, he now knows how to successfully embarrass the composed man, in case that knowledge ever comes in handy someday!
Zen's arm drops as he shifts back into a proper sitting position like before, giving a light chuckle.]
"For the time being"? You're not planning anything funny for later, are you? [Does that accusation sound familiar, though with less suspicion?]
[Then his eyes drop on their hands, teasing smile also growing thinner. He still hasn't apologized for earlier nor thanked the man for the help.]
Still a bit sleepy, but better.
[Tired but not at risk of crystallizing anymore would be the more honest choice of words here. But no matter the situation, he can't get used to being on the receiving end of concern like this. Cue the way he looks away.]
[ Then there would be no point in mentioning it at all!! But he will give Zen a pass since the younger man seems to be having a time of it today. Sanguis is not kind, nor is Iris, but he can only imagine having to deal with feelings like that.
Ozpin will give him a look again before he shakes his head. ] No not at all. Unless you yourself are planning something? [ An amused tone as he watches the other's actions. He knows a face of regret and apology when he sees one. And Zen doesn't seem the type to really apology, does he? ]
Forget about what happened earlier. Sanguis has that effect on people, so no need to apologize. I'm glad you're feeling better, then. Next time when you're that low just make sure to take care of yourself, hm?
well too bad it'll be used against him (again) now
[Whatever hint of regret there was on Zen's features is placed by a pensive look as he keeps his gaze fixated on some shadowed spot away from them. It's somewhat relieving that Ozpin is perceptive and kind enough (maybe even too much of both) to offer him a chance to avoid embarrassing himself further, but...
Although it was partly out of his control, blaming it entirely on Sanguis doesn't completely erase the guilt. Because Zen did mean those words, even if only for a split second. And while he's not as dedicated to improving himself as Ozpin seems to be, it wouldn't hurt to learn from his obvious mistakes.]
Even so, I went a bit too far. I shouldn't have said that.
[Because not every apology has to be the honest and direct "I'm sorry", right? And with that out of the way, a sly smile tugs at the corner of his lips as he gives the older man a sidelong glance.]
Need a reminder of which one of us makes oddly suggestive noises when the other does so much as touch their brand new pair of ears?
[ Ozpin has forgiven and overlooked things far worse than a simple snap like that. If his actions towards a traitor like Lionheart were any indication, Zen's words were hardly something he's not used to. Still, despite the sting and hurt intended in them...he can't help but blame Sanguis in the grand scheme of things. ]
Well, apology accepted then. [ Or it would be if he hadn't said that?! Ozpin's eyes will tick away behind his glasses, cheeks going slightly pick, obvious due to his fair skin before lets out a sigh. His ears will twitch and stand up from their languid state, before he gives Zen another look. ]
That is...was...because I was still somewhat asleep. It won't...happen again. [ Of course it will but he's not going to admit that it feels good and turns him on?? ]
no subject
Still he never would have imagined Zen asking him of all people. He's sorry for the sass, now! If he had know the nature of the call he wouldn't have given him such a reply?! ]

how do i make tags shorter

[Not!Dad, hopefully you're not in a hurry and don't mind a Not!Son using you as a pillow for a quick, unplanned nap!]
delicious sweet angst?!
silly fluff after angst is even sweeter (º﹃º )
It really is, and so pure.
[ doing?! ]
more like mischievously pure right?!
But! Anyway. ] How are you feeling?
lies, I know he secretly enjoys it!!!
Cue the way he looks away.]
rofl he does but shh no one needs to know that!!
Next time when you're that low just make sure to take care of yourself, hm?
well too bad it'll be used against him (again) now
Although it was partly out of his control, blaming it entirely on Sanguis doesn't completely erase the guilt.
Zen can u not?
Well, apology accepted then. [ Or it would be if he hadn't said that?! Ozpin's eyes will tick away behind his glasses, cheeks going slightly pick, obvious due to his fair skin before lets out a sigh. His ears will twitch and stand up from their languid state, before he gives Zen another look. ]
That is...was...because I was still somewhat asleep. It won't...happen again. [ Of course it will but he's not going to admit that it feels good and turns him on?? ]
